Heavy Snow Warning Defined

Exclusive WeatherBug Video on Winter Weather

A Heavy Snow Warning is issued when a winter storm is likely to cause significant snowfall amounts. The amount of snow needed to qualify for this alert varies from region to region across the country, so pay attention to statements from your local National Weather Service office.

Additional tips:

  • Be very careful when shoveling snow, especially if you have a history of heart trouble. Bend at the knees when lifting, but try to push the snow out of the way as you shovel, instead of lifting it all at once.
  • li>Dress in layers and watch for signs of frostbite.
  • If in a car, keep your vehicle`s fuel tank half full or greater at all times. Make sure tail pipe remains clear of snow to avoid carbon monoxide build-up .
