U.S. Open: Soggy Late Afternoon Weather Expected
June 16, 2013

The U.S. Open Championship, the second of the U.S. golf annual four major championships, is underway from the Merion Golf Club in the Philadelphia suburb of Ardmore, Pa.
Not only will the tough U.S. Open course test the world`s top golfers, but the weather did for a time Thursday. A major summer storm system that rumbled across the mid-Atlantic Thursday triggered downpours and thunderstorms across the Merion course late Thursday morning, causing a couple hour delay in the action.
Unfortunately, showers will move into Ardmore, Pa., by late this afternoon. Most of the rain will be light but a few downpours are possible. This could briefly delay play.
The U.S. Open is one of the four annual major championships on the men`s professional golf schedule. Operated by the U.S. Golf Association, the tournament played during the Father`s Day weekend matches the world`s top professional golfers with the best qualified amateur golfers. The tournament is played on selected golf courses and this year`s course, the Merion Golf Club, will be hosting the U.S. Open for the fifth time. It last hosted the tournament in 1981.
