Eating At the Ballpark --- Not Just Hot Dogs Anymore

Hot Dog and beer, the All-American baseball stadium staple, now has some competition. A renaissance in food has occurred in the last 20 years, with many major league stadiums now offering a selection of local specialties.
We`ve scoured the internet and polled our friends and family to come up with our list of some of the most unique food you can get this summer at the ballpark:
Rocky Mountain Oysters Coors Field, Denver, Colo.
Probably as far away from a major body of water as any ballpark in the U.S., this mile high special doesn`t come from the ocean, it comes from a bull. Battered and deep fried, these oysters are actually cow`s testicles. It is an acquired taste, Rocky Mountain News in 2008 says only about 25 orders are sold per game.
Gilroy Garlic Fries AT&T Park, San Francisco
A signature dish at San Francisco Giants games, Gilroy Garlic Fries mix an American favorite, French fries, and locally grown garlic from nearby Gilroy, Calif. The garlic is part of a mixture of olive oil, parsley, salt and pepper added after the fries come out of the fryer. No ketchup is needed here.
Cha Cha Bowl AT&T Park, San Francisco
The City by the Bay makes our list once again with their healthy Cha Cha Bowl. Named after Hall of Famer and Giant great Orlando Cepeda, the dish contains black beans, rice, Caribbean-style jerk chicken and pineapple salsa. Anything with black beans and rice is a winner in our book.
Walleye Fingers, Walleye-on-a-Stick, Walleye Sandwich - Target Field, Minneapolis
Minnesota`s state fish, the Walleye, is featured prominently at Target Field in Minneapolis. Fans can get the freshwater fish fried and on a stick just like you get at the Minnesota State Fair. The fried fish can also be bought shaped like fingers or on a roll.
Toasted Ravioli - Busch Stadium, St. Louis
Invented and a specialty in St. Louis, the Toasted Ravioli brings an Italian flair to the Gateway City. The Toasted Ravioli is actually the classic Italian Ravioli deep-fried until it is has a golden brown or "toasted" look. It is topped with a bit of cheese and comes with marinara dipping sauce.
Primanti Brothers Sandwich - PNC Ballpark
Most ballparks today serve a variety of sandwiches inspired by local cuisine, whether it`s barbecue, pulled pork, beef tips, crab cakes or cheese steaks. However, how many sandwiches come with cole slaw and French fries not on the side but IN the sandwich? I didn`t think so! The Primanti Brother sandwich, a Pittsburgh tradition since 1933 with branches throughout the Steel City and inside PNC Park, is a selection of grilled meat, topped with French fries, cole slaw and tomatoes all on Italian bread.
Rubio`s Fish Tacos - PETCO Park, San Diego
Fish make a second appearance on this list. San Diego`s beautiful weather and close proximity to Baja Mexico and the Pacific Ocean is the inspiration for this dish. A local restaurant since 1983, Rubio opened an in-stadium branch in 2004, offering its soft taco filled with beer-battered fried fish, shredded cabbage, mild salsa and a secret white sauce.
This list of unique ballpark foods is just a tip of the iceberg. When you head to your local stadium this year, make sure you are on the look-out for some of each stadium`s best local foods, or just eat the old standby, a hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut.
