DENVER - Officials say tornadoes hit parts of Colorado and Wyoming and damaged several homes.

The National Weather Service says a quarter-mile-wide tornado cut a swath across mainly open country in southeastern Wyoming Thursday night.

Officials say damaged was confined to the Wheatland area. Several homes had damage, some empty train cars were thrown from the tracks, and one person had minor injuries.

The storm system also hit Colorado with high winds, heavy rain and hail.

A tornado was spotted near Calhan in El Paso County on Thursday night. And meteorologists were trying to confirm a tornado to the north in Elbert County near Simla.

Elbert County officials report damage to eight houses. They also received a report of one minor injury.
