The storm system chugging through the Mississippi Valley Wednesday will scoot to the east, interrupting many outdoor plans in the Tennessee and Ohio valleys as well as the Southeast today. All the while, the weather west of the Mississippi Valley will be the complete opposite, with blue skies and comfortable temperatures.

WeatherBug Meteorologist Todd Nelson has the latest in his exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook.

While morning rain will give windshield wipers a good workout in the Mississippi Valley, the same storm will trudge east during the day, bringing downpours through the Ohio and Tennessee valleys, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. A few storms could build in the warmer, more humid air in the Southeast, but the severe threat will be quite isolated.

The rain that pelted the Mid-Atlantic Wednesday will scoot into the Northeast today. Morning showers will slow the commute in and Boston, while showers linger across northern New England.

The West, on the other hand, will be parked under a sprawling upper-level high pressure ridge providing plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will warm well into the 90s along the central and southern California Coast, through the southern California deserts and into southern Arizona. More pleasant 60s and 70s will grace the remainder of the Southwest, Great Basin and Mountain West.

The coolest weather will be draped along the northern Cascades and northern Rockies where highs will remain in the 30s and 40s, despite more sunshine than has been seen all week.

Seasonal 60s and 70s will encompass large stretches of the Plains to the East with warmer and more humid 80s along the Gulf Coast into Florida.
