Weekend Weather Outlook

Heavy rain and mountain snow are once again a big headache for the Northwest this weekend, with a southern storm rolling from Texas into the Southeast.

WeatherBug Meteorologist Rob Eicher has today`s forecast in this exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook Video.

Today

The Pacific Northwest is starting the weekend the same way the work week ended, full of gusty rain along the coast and deep snow falling over the Cascades and the northern Sierras. It will continue spreading into the Intermountain West. The barrage of recent wet weather since earlier in the work week will increase the chance of river flooding across western Washington and Oregon. Travel across the Northwest, northern Sierras and Intermountain West mountains, will be treacherous.

Another area unlucky in the rainfall department is the Gulf Coast, South and Southeast. A developing storm is producing heavy rain and thunderstorms from eastern Texas to southern Louisiana with soggy weather taking aim at the Southeast. A few rumbles of thunder will be heard across Florida and along the immediate Gulf Coast later today.

The rest of the U.S. will see autumn temperatures along with autumn sunshine. Warmest highs will be found in Florida, southern Texas and the Southwest, where 70s and a few 80s will be possible. Typical for this time of the year, temperatures drop off heading north with 60s and 70s in southern California, southern Rockies, southern Plains and Southeast. Seasonal 40s and 50s will be found across the northern tier from the Northwest to New England, with the western mountains staying colder.

Sunday

A gradual shift in the overall weather pattern will mean snow and rain expanding out of the Pacific Northwest and into the Interior Northwest. Meanwhile, the Carolinas and Southeast will get in line for rain and thunderstorms.

The worst weather, just like today, will be in the U.S.`s Northwest corner. Heavy rain and mountain snow will shift slightly inland, but the Cascades and Intermountain West will still be in line for snow and the Northwest coast will see periodic rain showers and gusty winds.

Rain shifting out of the South will soak the Southeast and southern Mid-Atlantic, ruining a few Sunday afternoon plans. The rest of the U.S., except for the cloudy Upper Midwest, will be mostly sunny. Temperatures Sunday will be very similar to today, with 40s and a few 50s extending across the northern tier and 70s found across the South. Everyone else will be in the 50s with a few 60s mixed in.
