The fourth storm in a week is continuing to spread into the Interior Northwest this evening. A short lull is coming for the Pacific Northwest, before the next storm moves in Monday. Just like the previous storms, the valleys and coasts will be clocked with rain and wind while the mountains get pummeled with heavy snow accumulation.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Rob Eicher has the latest on the Northwest snow in his exclusive WeatherBug Winter Outlook.
A powerful storm system pushed its way across the Pacific Northwest today. Rain and high winds moved through western Washington and Oregon with across the Cascades and into the Sawtooth Mountains. New snow accumulations today ranged from 4 to 7 inches in the Cascades.
Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for the Washington Cascades as well as in northern Idaho, while Winter Weather Advisories continue in much of Idaho`s northern Sawtooth Mountains, the Swan Mountains of southwest Montana, the Teton Mountains of eastern Idaho and northern Utah`s Wasatch Mountains.
As the storm pushes into the northern Rockies tonight, it is bringing with it gusty winds. Sustained winds at 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 60 mph will create hazardous travel across the mountains. Already, winds have gusted over 60 mph in several locations. The highest gust reported so far is in Newport, Ore., with 82 mph, while Gleneden Beach, Ore., recorded an 81 mph gust while Destruction Island, Wash., had a gust to 67 mph. For this, High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories are in effect from southern Washington to north-central Oregon, as well as in northern Nevada.
Today`s rain and snowmaker in the Northwest is making a beeline for the Northern Plains by Monday.
