Today's Weather Outlook

A weeklong period of quiet but cool autumn weather across much of the central and eastern U.S. will continue today.

WeatherBug Meteorologist Rachel Peterson has the latest on today's weather in this exclusive WeatherBug Video.

The only place not seeing the end of week autumn tranquility will be the Northwest. A sizeable pulse of Pacific energy will continue to spread ashore, bringing more heavy rain from extreme northern California northward to Portland and Seattle. This storm will also produce a bit of mountain snow in the highest elevations of the Cascades and into the Intermountain West, especially later today.

As previewed earlier, the rest of the U.S. from California to Atlantic will be full of autumn sunshine this afternoon. The warmest temperatures will continue to be found across Florida, southern Texas and the Desert Southwest, where middle 80s will make it a great day to leave work early and spend some time outside.

Not too far behind in the temperature department will be much of California, lower Colorado Valley, the southern and central Plains and South, where highs will streak into the 70s after a cool morning start. For the Plains, these temperatures will be at least 10 degrees warmer than the normal for this time of the year. Low humidity is increasing the fire danger throughout the Plains.

Cooler upper 40s and 50s will mean light jackets will be the choice for everyone heading outside across much of the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast.
