Ghosts and goblins trick-or-treating on Halloween from the Deep South into New England may need a bit of extra rain gear to keep dry while the weather will be smooth sailing for large chunks of the Plains to the West Coast. Meanwhile, a splash of showers sprinkled with light mountain snow could dim jack-o-lanterns in the Northwest.

The thrill of an indoor haunted house may be the spookiest treat for those in the Northeast and Appalachians tonight. Here, showers will make it a soggy night for ghosts, goblins as well as princes and princesses hitting the neighborhood streets for tricks and treats. A few showers early this evening will disappear into the witch`s brew as the night wears on from the eastern Ohio Valley into the South.
Meanwhile, a potpourri of valley rain west of the Cascades will sprinkle down on trick-or-treaters in Seattle and Portland while the northern Cascades will see just a light dusting of snow.
A bubble of high pressure will allow for a spooktacular night in the central and western U.S. tonight. The clear skies and calm wind will make for a thrilling trick-or-treat night in places like Casper, Wyo., Aurora, Colo., and Roswell, N.M.
Temperatures will be chilled into the 30s and 40s with the onset of nightfall in the Northeast, Upper Midwest, northern Plains and Northwest with warmer 50s and 60s in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Plains and toasty 70s deep into the heart of Texas, the Southwest and Florida.
