Dear Educator,
 The cold weather is finally bearing down on us. We need to appreciate the few fall-like days we have left, because soon many of us will be wearing winter parkas, hats and mittens on a daily basis. I know I already started to look for my winter gear and base layers.
As we close out autumn and change the clocks back so comes to end NASCAR and the auto racing season in the United States. But seriously, what does auto racing have to do with weather you ask? Much more than you would think...
A true NASCAR fan knows every track is different, but weather can change track conditions regardless of the venue.
Weather plays such a huge role in auto racing that Jimmie Johnson’s crew chief brings their own weather station to the track.This allows them to monitor several factors like temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction. Strong winds can affect the way a car behaves in a turn or at full velocity. Temperature and humidity can affect how the tires stick to the track, how long they last and even the performance of the engine.
