This month’s Classroom Connections topic is the Hindenburg. This "lighter than air" craft was a product of the Zeppelin Company in Germany. When the Hindenburg was built in 1936, zeppelins had already been accepted as a quicker way to travel long distances. The Hindenburg was the largest air ship ever built. It could hold more than 70 passengers in luxurious comfort and had a dining room, library, lounge with a grand piano, sleep cabins and large windows. Zeppelins were changing the bright future of transcontinental travel. But in New Jersey on May 6, 1937, the bright future of this luxury air ship came to disastrous halt!

Join Meteorologist Rachel Peterson in this month’s RWI Video as she investigates what happened to the Hindenburg and could weather have contributed. After the video, your students investigate the different theories and formulate their own conclusions. Was weather a contributing factor?
