WeatherBug Plus Support

Below are answers to common questions about the current version of the WeatherBug Plus desktop application. If you do not see your question here, please fill out a Support Request Form or visit the WeatherBug Forums.

I need my Plus activation code.

If you ordered WeatherBug on CD, your code is on the back of the CD case. If you received WeatherBug Plus with a mobile alert plan on your cell phone, your code was emailed to you- if you need it again, please send a Support Request Form with your cell phone number so we can retrieve it.

Otherwise, if you no longer have access to your Plus code and need it, please click here.

You will need the email address that you signed up with to retrieve your activation code*.

When you receive your activation code, please follow the directions below.

  1. Click the SUBSCRIBE button in the top left of your WeatherBug's main screen.
  2. Cut and paste or type the activation code** into the field provided. To copy and paste, highlight the code, then click the CTRL button (bottom left of your keyboard) and the letter C simultaneously to copy, and CTRL and V to paste it into the Subscribe box. Make SURE there are no extra spaces before or after the code when pasting.
  3. Click ACTIVATE. After the acceptance of the code, it may take a few seconds for the banner ads to disappear.

Please do NOT erase the email containing your code.

* If you no longer receive email at the original address you used when you signed up, then please email our support team.

**Please remember to include all dashes ("-"), and CAPITALIZE all letters if you type the code. Make sure there are NO spaces before or after the code if you choose to copy and paste it.

My code doesn't work.

Here are a few steps you can use to activate your WeatherBug Plus application.

If you purchased WeatherBug Plus online, you can retrieve your correct code here.

If you purchased via a CD, the code is on the back of the CD. Please type it in exactly as shown on the back of the CD, including capital letters and dashes.

  1. Firewall software. There are many different types of firewall software and hardware. And since each firewall has so many different security settings, the numbers of combinations can be large. Programs like Norton Personal Firewall, Black Ice, Symantec and others do have the ability to be temporarily disabled. We are not suggesting that you leave your firewall down just for WeatherBug, but if you can disable it temporarily, just during the WeatherBug Plus activation process, then you can re-enable your firewall afterwards for normal operation. We have noticed that this is the main reason for activation codes not being accepted.
  2. Code errors. The activation code must be entered exactly as you see it. All Capital letters must be entered as capitals. Make sure to include the dashes and that there are NO extra spaces after the last digit. The easiest way to avoid these is to 'cut and paste' the code as we sent it into the activation box, making sure there are no extra spaces before or after the code. To copy and paste, highlight the code, then click the CTRL button and the letter C to copy, and CTRL and V to paste into the Subscribe box. If you are typing in the code, please make sure to differentiate between 0's and O's (zeros and oh's) and the letter I and the number 1, as sometimes, depending on what font you use on your computer, these can look similar.

    Note: If you have a CD version of Plus, you will need to type in the activation code.

  3. Internet Connection. You must be connected to the internet to activate the WeatherBug.
  4. Not enough system memory. The WeatherBug needs 8mb of free memory to run. If you have 128mb of RAM on your system, this may not be an issue for you. However, many people have multiple programs running that are taking up memory, even though they don't know it. On any system running Microsoft Windows, any of the icons that you see down next to your clock are programs running in the background. While they may not be taking up system resources right now, they are holding the memory that WeatherBug may need to use.
  5. Also, please allow up to 2 hours after receiving your activation code to ensure that all our servers have updated your order, if you are still experiencing issues when entering your code.
How can I cancel my subscription (annual or 14 day trial)?

If you signed up for the 14 day trial of WeatherBug Plus, please send an email to freetrial@weatherbugsupport.com.

For regular Plus customers, please send an email to refund@weatherbugsupport.com.

In either case, please be sure to include the name and email address of the person who purchased the subscription. If you have the order number from the confirmation email you received, please include that as well.

Can I use Plus on 2 computers?

Personal Activation Codes may be activated on up to 2 computers or 2 users on the same computer simultaneously.

To enable the WeatherBug Plus features on a second computer, please enter your WeatherBug activation code. If you need to retrieve your Plus code, please click here.

  1. Click the Subscribe button
  2. Copy and paste or type the activation code into the field provided-make sure there are no extra spaces at the end of the code if you cut and paste. To copy and paste, highlight the code, then click the CTRL button (bottom left of your keyboard) and the letter C simultaneously to copy, and CTRL and V to paste it into the Subscribe box. Make SURE there are no extra spaces before or after the code when pasting.
  3. Click Activate.

* Please remember to include all dashes ("-"), CAPITALIZE letters if they are capitalized in the code, and enter numbers exactly as provided. If you cut and paste the code, make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the last letter or digit. After the acceptance of the code, it may take a few seconds for the banner ads to disappear.

If you activate more than 2 computers, it will log the 1st computer off of WeatherBug Plus.

Can I stop my account from being automatically billed next year?

If you wish to prevent your Plus account from being automatically renewed on the anniversary of your sign-up date, as outlined in the Terms of Use agreement, please send an email to refund@weatherbugsupport.com

Please be sure to include the name and email address of the person who purchased the subscription.

Why do I occasionally lose my Plus features?

There are a few reasons why you might occasionally lose your Plus features:

First, the Plus license is only valid for 2 computers OR 2 users simultaneously. If you try to activate more than this, the earliest activated computer or account will revert back to the free version.

Second, your Plus code may pass a 'cookie' to your local computer that is used to store your code. This is necessary to prevent you from having to retype your activation code and ZIP Code every time you wanted to access WeatherBug.

If you use a personal firewall application, or have cookies turned off on your web browser, the code may not work properly.

Please enable cookies from WeatherBug to be stored on your computer in the proper folder.

To enable cookies, complete the following steps:

  • Open up your internet explorer browser
  • Click on Tools
  • Click on Internet Options
  • Click on Privacy Tab
  • Click on the Advanced Button
  • Ensure that you accept; or enable first party cookies
  • Click OK to leave Advanced Privacy Settings
  • Click OK to leave Internet Options.
I am getting "an active internet connection is required" error message.

If WeatherBug is not showing UPDATED current conditions or is displaying an error message regarding internet activity, please make sure you are online

  • If you are online, please ensure that any firewall, antivirus or ad-blocking software is set to allow WeatherBug access to the internet.
  • Enter the URL deskwx.weatherbug.com into the firewall or software to give WeatherBug full access. (note, no www or http:// is required before the deskwx address)
  • After you have done this, please shut down your computer and restart it to allow the firewall, adblocking or other software the opportunity to recognize this change.

It's also possible that the weather station you are connecting to may be temporarily down. You can select a different station by clicking the Change Location button on your WeatherBug, typing in your ZIP Code and clicking "Go", then choosing another station and clicking the "Set Location" button.

The Forecast/Alert/Radar/Camera page isn’t working.

There are two main reasons you may not be getting live data. First, you may not have been connected to the internet at the time of the problem. Second, there was a firewall, adblocking or antivirus software causing a conflict with WeatherBug.

If you are having a problem with your Forecast, Alerts, Camera, Radar, and Travel pages not loading, please note the following solutions.

Solution 1:

Make sure you are connected to the internet. WeatherBug needs to have an internet connection to access live weather data.

Solution 2:

Right click your WeatherBug icon in the system tray (lower right hand corner next to your computer's time) and select "Exit WeatherBug" then restart by clicking your Windows "Start" button and then scroll up to WeatherBug, and click the icon to restart WeatherBug.

Solution 3:

You may need to clean out your computer's cache / cookies. Open an Internet Explorer browser page. Click on "Tools" and then "Internet Options". Under the Temporary Internet files option, select "delete files" and then click 'OK'. Next select "delete cookies" and click 'OK'. Then right click your WeatherBug icon in the system tray (lower right hand corner next to your computer's time) and select "Exit WeatherBug." Finally, restart WeatherBug by clicking your Windows "Start" button and then scroll up to the WeatherBug icon, and click it to restart the program.

Solution 4:

It is possible that your Forecast, Alerts/Severe Weather, Camera, Radar, and Travel might be blocked by the following software:

  • Firewall
  • Ad-blocking
  • Parental Control
  • Content Advisor (Internet Explorer)
  • Privacy Guard

**Several of these components are bundled together in the popular Internet Security programs.

Enter the URL deskwx.weatherbug.com (note- no www or http required) into your allowed/approved sites list within your software program. Next, right click your WeatherBug icon in the system tray (lower right hand corner next to your computer's time) and select "Exit WeatherBug" then restart WeatherBug by clicking your Windows "Start" button and then scroll up to WeatherBug, and click it to restart.

If you have McAfee, please make sure to "allow ads" as this may also fix the issue.

If you are unsure of how to add the URL to your approved sites list, you should contact the provider of the software program for assistance.

How often do forecasts update?

Up to 4 times each day, the National Weather Service updates regional forecasts. Your WeatherBug 6.0 will alert you to these updates when they occur by displaying a small notice in the system tray. A double chime will sound to let you know the forecast has been updated in addition to the balloon notice as seen below:

You can turn off the audible alert or set it not to alert you during certain time periods, such as at night by clicking the Preferences button at the top of your WeatherBug. Click the Forecast Options tab, then CHECK the Active Notification Silence Time box- it should be empty when you first reach the page. You can then adjust the time that you want the sound to be off, or you can select "Off All Day" if you do not wish to have the forecast alert you when it updates. Click OK and your preferences will be set.

The station is showing the wrong data.

Please provide us with the following information so we can investigate the issue immediately:

  • the ZIP Code of the station and the day you noticed the problem;
  • the Weather station ID (the name of the location such as the school, airport, etc.);
  • a short description of the problem you believe the station may be experiencing

For example: Jones Elementary School in Allentown, PA 18104 is displaying no rain even though it is raining on (today's date).

PLEASE NOTE: If any weather information is showing as "N/A", our team is already aware of the fact that this data is currently unavailable and has contacted the station owners. We will work with our station contacts to bring this data back online as soon as possible.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. With over 8000 stations in our network, we realize that occasionally a station may have reporting issues. We have a technical support team dedicated to addressing these as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, click the Change Location link at the top of the main screen and enter your ZIP Code and choose a different station and click OK or SET LOCATION to set your WeatherBug to a new station.

The weather data is not updating.
