Latest News: Ice Storm Spreads Into The Great Lakes

A relentless ice storm just won’t give up across the nation’s midsection. The icy mess is sliding through the Upper Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes tonight. Here’s a recap of ice accumulation since the first storm started last Friday:

Latest News:
  • Fewer than 600 people were in the dark in Missouri as of Sunday evening.
  • Icy roads contributed to a deadly accident in southwestern Kansas Saturday night.
  • Two police escaped injury when their police cars were struck while working a crash in Kansas City, Kan., along Interstate 635 in the northbound direction.
  • A disaster emergency was declared by Oklahoma’s Governor Mary Fallin.
  • At least three deaths were blamed on the series of storms, with two of them killed in separate accidents in Missouri and another in Oklahoma involving a semi-truck.
  • Late on Friday, icy conditions were blamed for a pile up involving more than 20 vehicles in Wichita, Kan., but thankfully there were no serious injuries reported.
  • The storm’s track forced the National Football League to move Sunday’s AFC Divisional round between Pittsburgh and Kansas City, originally scheduled to start at 1 p.m. EST, to an 8:20 p.m. EST start time.
