Chilly Air Mass Dives Across New York, New England

Mother Nature is sliding into the fall season right on cue this weekend. A fresh chilly Canadian air mass will bring frosty temperatures yet again to start the new work week. The cool air mass will be replaced by soggy weather as the work week rolls along.
Frost Advisories have been posted across eastern New York into parts of interior New England, including Glens Falls, Watertown, and Utica, New York, Concord, N.H.,Worcester and Springfield, Mass., and further north into Bangor, Maine. Freeze Warnings include upstate New York, including Malone and Saranac Lake, and then into northern portions of Vermont, New Hampshire, and northern Maine that align with the Canadian border, including the cities of Montpeller, Vt. and Jackman, Maine could see temperatures dip below freezing.
Temperatures will bottom out in the upper 20s to middle 30s for several hours prior to daybreak in New York and interior New England. Temperatures this cold for an extended period of time can cause damage to flowers and plants. Before going to bed tonight, cover plants and flowers with a blanket or bring potted plants and flowers inside.
Ample sunshine will warm temperatures to near 60 degrees Monday afternoon. Clouds will increase ahead of a cold front that is currently chomping through the Upper Midwest. A much milder night is in store for New York and interior New England Tuesday morningt with lows in the upper 40s.
Despite the frontal passage, temperatures will reach the 60s Tuesday and drop down into the 40s Tuesday night. The pattern through midweek favors no additional frost concerns.
Morning temperatures today bottomed out at 30 degrees at a Live WeatherBug Tracking Station on Lake Luzerne, N.Y., and hit the freezing mark in several spots, including Remsen, N.Y, Marlborough, N.H., and Brownfield, Maine. Mount Washingtion, N.H., wins the award for the coldest spot in the Lower 48 this morning, dipping to 23 degrees.
Late September is common to see the first frost in Upstate New York and New England. Elmira, N.Y., typically has its first frost around September 18, Albany around September 19 and Buffalo, N.Y., has its first frost on average late in September. Most of Maine can see its first frost by the end of September except for coastal locations like Bar Harbor and Lewiston.
