Arctic Plunge Settles Across Northeast

An Arctic air mass sliding across the northern tier of the U.S.will bring the coldest temperatures of the season to the East Coast. Brutal wind chills near or below zero will be the norm for many areas.

Dangerously cold temperatures are in place across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic this morning. Wind Chill Warnings and Advisories are in place from northern Ohio to Maine and advisories dip into the Shenandoah Valley.

Temperatures have fallen to minus-40 degrees in Goshen, Mass., with Washington, Conn., down to 3 degrees. Frederick, Md., has dropped to 13 degrees, with Hampton, N.J., at 9 degrees.

The good news is that a strong winter storm will advance quickly behind this Arctic blast on Friday, rapidly returning milder air to the region. However, that warmer weather will come at the price of a mixed bag of snow, sleet and freezing rain to start the weekend.
 
Since these temperatures can be life-threatening, be sure to bundle up when leaving your house to avoid frostbite. Be sure to check on elderly relatives and keep your pets indoors overnight.
