Hanna's Heavy Rain Exits New England

Tropical Storm Hanna`s rain is exiting northern Maine this morning, but not before leaving behind impressive storm totals.

WeatherBug Meteorologist Chad Merrill has the latest on rainfall totals from Tropical Storm Hanna in this exclusive WeatherBug Video.

The heaviest rain in the Mid-Atlantic has been seen across the western suburbs of Washington, D.C., and through New England where generally between 4 and 6 inches of rain fell. Oakton, Va., led the way with nearly 9 inches of rain, while Annadale, Va., was close behind at 7.26 inches.

As Hanna raced into New England, rainfall totals were generally in the range of 4 to 7 inches. A WeatherBug Live Tracking Station at Whisconier Middle School in Connecticut received a gracious 7.15 inches of rain. Another WeatherBug Live Tracking Station at New Fairfield High School in Connecticut collected 6.49 inches of rain, while East Hartford, Conn., had 6.19 inches of rain from Hanna.

This much rain in such a short period of time is still causing some flooding concerns, and Flood Warnings and Flash Flood Watches and Warnings remain along the New England coast.

The flooding Saturday washed out roads across the Washington, D.C., area, and led to a fatal accident that killed one near Washington. Several sporting events were cancelled Saturday.

Remember, do not attempt to drive through flood waters, as they may be moving faster and be higher than they appear. Remember: Turn Around, Don`t Drown!

A silver lining is that the rain fell across the parched coastal Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. While not a cure, Hanna`s rain helped feed dry crops and refill reservoirs, especially across eastern North Carolina.
