Former Tropical Storm Dorian came back to life as a depression east of Florida today, and now it has quickly died again as it moves away from the East Coast.

As of 5 p.m. AST, Post-Tropical Cyclone Dorian was located at 31.7 N and 77.6 W or about 160 miles east of Charleston, S.C. Maximum sustained winds are 30 mph and it is accelerating northeastward at 16 mph. The central pressure is rather high at 1013 mb or 29.91 inches.

The remnants of Dorian are expected to continue move northeastward along a cold front pressing southward through the Mid-Atlantic today, and this will be the last update of Dorian as it continues it trek out into the open Atlantic.

The Eastern Pacific basin is becoming active with Tropical Storm Gil continuing to weaken and marching out in the open waters. It poses no threat to any land. Right on its heels, Tropical Depression Eight-E formed late this morning more than 1,000 miles south of the southern Baja California tip. Just like Gil, it will pose no threat to land as it churns the open Pacific for days to come.

August is the time of the season when the Atlantic basin ramps up with activity. Dorian marks the fourth named storm of the season. Usually by the end of August five named storms have formed, with three of those forming in August.
