Nadine, which has been around for more than three weeks, finally lost all tropical characteristics and is getting absorbed by a cold front. Tropical Storm Oscar, the other system in the Atlantic, is the system that bears watching now... although it will not be a threat to anyone.

As of 5 p.m. AST (EDT), Oscar was located near 21.3 N and 41.0 W, or about 1,170 miles west-northwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Its winds remain at 45 mph, with a minimum central pressure of 1000 mb or 29.53 inches of mercury. Oscar is moving to the northeast at 12 mph, and it is expected to maintain that movement into Friday. That said, Oscar is already fighting strong westerly winds and this will likely signal the storm`s demise by the end of the week, even as it crosses the central Atlantic.

Climatologically speaking, the Cape Verde season is winding down. The ripe area for October tropical formation shifts to the western Caribbean and Bay of Campeche. Click here for a look at October Hurricane History in the Atlantic Basin.
