The eastern Pacific`s second hurricane, Carlotta, has rapidly weakened, losing tropical characteristics across the southern Mexico mountains. Its heavy rain will continue to pose a serious flooding risk in southern Mexico through early next week.

As of 8 p.m. PDT, Post-Tropical Cyclone Carlotta was located near 18.1 N and 100.3 W, or about 90 miles east-northeast of Acapulco, Mexico. Maximum sustained winds have now decreased to 25 mph. It has slowed down, and is currently moving west-northwestward at 5 mph. The minimum central pressure is 1006 mb or 29.71 inches of mercury.

The remnants of Carlotta will continue to bring heavy rain with flooding and mudslides likely for the interior mountains. This will allow as much as 15 inches of rain to pelt the Oaxaca Coast, with 4 to 8 inches for most areas along the Mexico Coast.

In an average season, 15 to 16 tropical storms form in the Eastern Pacific with 9 becoming hurricanes. So far there have been 3 named storms with Carlotta being the second hurricane of the season.
