WeatherBug Co-sponsors AMS Freshman Undergraduate Scholarship Program to Support Atmospheric and Related Sciences AMS 89th Annual Meeting, Phoenix, AZ — WeatherBug®, the world's leading provider of weather information and services, announced today that it is a co-sponsor of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Freshman Undergraduate Scholarship Program. First introduced in 2006, the scholarship is awarded to 14 high school seniors intending to pursue a degree in atmospheric or related science. "WeatherBug's roots are firmly planted in the education sector and supporting science literacy is at the foundation of our company's mission," said Bob Marshall, CEO and Founder of AWS Convergence Technologies, owner of the WeatherBug brand. "We are very proud to be a part of the AMS scholarship program and look forward to supporting our country's future scientists and meteorologists as they pursue their career goals. The two-year scholarship will be awarded in May 2009 and will support a student entering their first year of undergraduate study. AMS receives approximately 140 applications a year. The scholarships are for $5000 with $2500 going to the student each of their two years. The applications are reviewed by the AMS Committee of Judges for Undergraduate Awards and approved by the AMS Executive Committee. Students are awarded based on merit, academic excellence and faculty recommendation.
