Press ReleasesPress > April 10, 2007 Release New York's CW11/WPIX and WeatherBug Partner to Offer Viewers Live, Neighborhood-Level Weather Reporting-On-air and Online Daily Newscasts to Feature Live WeatherBug Data from Local School Districts New York, NY and Germantown, MD . – WeatherBug®, the leading provider of live, local weather information services, and CW11/WPIX-TV today announced the two companies have partnered to provide viewers with live, local weather data-in their morning and evening newscasts- from area schools across the viewing area. Launched today, CW11's weather team, meteorologist Linda Church, weather expert Mr. G, and weekend meteorologist, Joe Cioffi, will now be able to incorporate real time weather data from 564 WeatherBug Tracking Stations, located primarily atop schools in the Tri-State area, into their daily weather coverage. Additionally, CW11/WPIX-TV will be able to tap into the national network of 8,000 WeatherBug Tracking Stations for live weather conditions and severe weather coverage from around the nation. Saturn Automotive and its local Tri-State retailers have teamed up with the two companies to sponsor the neighborhood-level weather reporting on-air and online. WeatherBug maintains the largest weather network in the world. The live, local weather conditions are delivered to millions of consumers via the Internet and mobile devices, more than 100 state and local government agencies including the National Weather Service, and to schools, businesses and 80 broadcast television stations throughout the country. "We're really excited to be the only station in New York City to integrate WeatherBug's live network of weather tracking stations to our television and online audience," said Betty Ellen Berlamino, CW11/WPIX Vice President and General Manager. "Now, with WeatherBug, our team of award-winning weather experts and meteorologists can truly differentiate our news programs and provide viewers in the Tri-state area with highly localized weather information that only CW11 can provide." WeatherBug's Tracking Stations and cameras capture weather conditions right from viewers' neighborhoods in real time. Traditional newscasts, on the other hand, typically rely on weather information from weather stations placed at airports which are then computer modeled to appear localized. With access to the WeatherBug Tracking Stations, however, CW11/WPIX will be able to report on live weather conditions at area schools, provide severe weather alerts and track dramatic changes in weather conditions such as heat index and wind speed. CW11/WPIX will also offer viewers WeatherBug reports via its Web site at cw11.com. "WeatherBug welcomes CW11/WPIX to our broadcast family," said Michael Rosen, senior vice president and general manager of the consumer division at WeatherBug. "Whether it's helping local families to plan their day with confidence or giving them advance warning to take shelter from severe weather, together our two organizations are committed to making the weather forecast more reliable for the entire WPIX viewing area." CW11/WPIX will be able to feature schools from the local area such as Xavier HS in New York, NY, Carteret HS in Carteret, NJ, and PS 340 in Bronx, NY, NY during their daily broadcast. As a result, local communities across the viewing area will become an integral part of the CW11 news program. "WeatherBug will give us another opportunity to reach out to local schools and incorporate whole communities and neighborhoods into our news coverage," said Berlamino. "Our hope is that the people who live, play and work in those areas will truly feel they are part of the CW11 family." ABOUT THE CW11 About WeatherBug Media Contacts: |
