Meteorologists
Allison Rose Vegh
QC Alert Meteorologist
This is Allison Vegh’s first full-time position as a meteorologist. While attending
SUNY (State University of New York) Brockport, earning her Bachelor of Science in
Meteorology with a minor in Mathematics, she participated in three internships.
Two with the National Weather Service; the first with a CWSU (Center Weather
Service Unit) at the FAA in Oberlin, Ohio, and the second with WFO (Weather
Forecast Office) in Valley, Nebraska. While in Nebraska, she also interned with
KMTV (CBS affiliate) in Omaha. During her internship at the CWSU, she researched
various model performances during summertime thunderstorms. This research is
titled: "Using a Mesoscale Model to Identify Convective Initiation in an Air
Route Traffic Control Center/Center Weather Service Unit (ARTCC/CWSU)
Environment" and was presented at the National Weather Association’s 31st Annual
Meeting in Cleveland, OH – October 2006, as well as at Northeast Regional
Operational Workshop VIII in Albany, NY – November 2006.
In addition to studying weather, Vegh loves tennis; she played during all four years of high school and was on the varsity tennis team at the collegiate level for SUNY Brockport. She also enjoys indoor rock climbing and watching the Cleveland Cavaliers her home team. Her interest is severe storms and would love to chase tornados one day.
Fun Fact: "I knew from the time I was seven years old, that I wanted to be a meteorologist. I used to lie in my bed at night and open the curtains to watch the lightning and listen to the thunder during storms. One summer in particular, there were tornado warnings issue for my county and a funnel actually touched down just a few streets away from our house. I can remember my mom and sister being in the basement and my dad and I out on the back porch looking for the tornado."
