Portland weather is typical of Pacific Northwest cities. The majority of the city’s annual 40 inches of rainfall occurs in the winter when large storms come crashing into the west coast.
Now known as the Columbus Day Windstorm of 1962, Portland was impacted by a major storm system which caused sustained hurricane force winds throughout the city. The storm caused widespread damage and is now the benchmark for all major Portland weather events.
