Like most Midwestern cities, Columbus weather consists of four very distinct seasons. Winters can be quite cold and snowy while summers are warm and potentially stormy. The city averages nearly 40 inches of rainfall and 27 inches of snow each year.
One of the most famous tornado outbreaks in both Columbus weather and U.S. weather history occurred in April of 1974. The outbreak which would later be called the Super Outbreak, affected large parts of the Midwest including Columbus causing large amounts of damage and many fatalities.
