Indianapolis weather is typical for most Midwest cities. The summers can be quite warm with temperatures frequently reaching 90 degrees. Winters on the contrary are cold and sometimes snowy with the city averaging over 20 inches of snow.
The worst snowstorm in Indianapolis weather history is the Blizzard of 1978. Snowfall ranged from 20 to 40 inches across the state. Immediately following the storm, an arctic cold front brought strong winds which helped create snowdrifts of up to 20 feet high.
