Despite its nickname, Chicago weather is really not all that windy when compared to most major cities throughout the U.S. Its climate usually features very cold winters and rather warm summers.
Even with the city lying along Lake Michigan, the prevailing westerly winds rarely support the major lake-effect snow squalls which are frequent to areas of nearby northern Indiana and western Michigan.
