Washington D.C. weather can be full of excitement. Though the average annual snowfall is a mere 15 inches, strong nor’easters have been known to dump over 20 inches of snow in just one storm.
Hot and humid summer afternoons often bring with them strong thunderstorms. Severe weather is hardly an infrequent occurrence for Washington D.C. weather. During a tornado outbreak in September 2001, funnel clouds were sighted over the city with several confirmed tornados nearby.
