San Diego weather is largely dominated by the direction of the winds over the city. On most days, the winds are off the cool Pacific Ocean waters, bringing with it a thick marine layer of fog which will usually dissipate by the afternoon.
On some occasions though, the westward moving Santa Ana winds can have a large impact on San Diego weather. These winds swoop down the mountains from the deserts to the east. When this occurs, temperatures can reach the century mark, well above their average annual high near 70.
